Dallas Work Moving to Missouri
Some Dallas work is being moved to another state.
Expedia Inc. recently announced its plans to close the company's call center in Arlington and move about 170 jobs to an operation in Springfield, Mo. The company's Springfield operation, which currently employs about 270 workers, will gain up to 500 new jobs during this expansion.
In addition to the jobs from Arlington, Expedia also plans to relocate about 150 jobs from the Dallas area, as well as several jobs from North Texas. Those positions include financial operations, vendor banking, and vendor services.
Employees in the Dallas area are being given the option to move to Springfield, and those who choose not to move will have the opportunity to pursue other jobs within the company.
In addition to the relocation of positions from the Dallas area, Expedia also plans to hire some new employees at the Springfield location. Those positions will be in customer service, financial operations and other roles supporting Expedia and Hotels.com.
"There are some operational efficiencies we can achieve in Springfield," Taylor Cole, director of public relations for Hotels.com, told the Dallas Business Journal. "We have worked with the city and state governments there on building a strong operation in Springfield."
After the Arlington call center is closed and all the employees are relocated to Springfield, Expedia will still employ more than 300 people in the Dallas area.
