Family Counselors to Virtually Help Veterans
Thanks to one organization's effort to help veterans, military members and their loved ones will soon have access to family counselors (Click here) and other important services.
Soldier's Heart recently announced that it will offer two different 12-week teleconference groups aimed at women beginning in January 2011. The non-profit organization offers counseling and support to military members and their families.
The first group, "Women Veterans", focuses on the unique challenges that women face in the military. This teleconference will offer military women a safe and supportive place in which to talk about their military experiences and receive advice.
Women Veterans will meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays. The group is open to any woman who has served or is currently serving in the military.
The second group, "Women Family Members", is aimed at helping the family members and friends of female military members who deal every day with the lasting effects of their loved one's military experience.
Women Family Members will meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursdays. The group is open to wives and significant others, mothers, sisters, and daughters of military personnel and veterans.
Each group is limited to eight participants and is free of charge, although donations are allowed. Soldier's Heart expects to form new groups each season.
Soldier's Heart was founded in an effort to respond to the concern regarding the psychological wounds, such as Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, faced by American soldiers. The organization helps families and communities support and heal military members and veterans.
Soldier's Heart also teachers communities how to start support services for veterans and their families - such as creating jobs for veterans - and conducts seminars to train other professionals about veterans' needs. To learn more, check out this social service worker job description.
