San Antonio Healthcare Jobs Created by Rehab Center Expansion
Hundreds of San Antonio healthcare jobs will be created when a local rehab center expands.
Post Acute Medical Corporation recently announced its plans to open two new rehabilitation hospitals under the company's Warm Springs Rehabilitation System in San Antonio.
Those facilities will create more than 300 new jobs, which is good news for the San Antonio area's healthcare industry, which has fared well following the economic downturn.
The San Antonio-New Braunfels area's education and health services industry employed 126,200 workers during December, which is up from 125,800 workers during November and a 1.2 percent increase from the previous year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Pennsylvania-based Post Acute Medical decided to build more rehab centers in the San Antonio area after seeing an increased demand for rehab services.
"More beds are needed in the San Antonio market to accommodate the volume of patients requesting Warm Springs for rehab care," Anthony Misitano, principal and CEO of Post Acute Medical, told the San Antonio Business Journal.
The first new rehab center, Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital of Westover Hills, will be built at a vacant spot on State Highway 151.
Construction on the project is expected to begin this month, with the hospital slated to open by the end of the year. The $15 million project will feature two floors of patient care, including 40 beds.
The second new rehab center will be located in Thousand Oaks in an existing building that the company plans to renovate. The facility will house 34 beds and is slated to open by Q3 2011.
Post Acute Medical already operates the company's main Warm Springs rehabilitation hospital in San Antonio, as well as several other facilities, including long-term acute care hospitals.
