Senior Care Nursing Jobs in High Demand

There is a strong need for qualified people to fill nursing jobs focused on taking care of the elderly.

A new report from Caregiverlist.com found that senior caregivers are still in high demand, despite the high unemployment rate throughout the nation. The increase in demand is due in part to the aging population and the odd hours that many caregivers work.

In addition, more seniors are being taken care of at home, as Medicare no longer pays for long-term nursing home care, which also is creating a need for more nursing jobs. In fact, more than 1,000 senior home care agencies opened in the last 10 years.

"As hospital and nursing home stays have become shorter, often seniors are discharged upon short-notice, leaving senior care companies scrambling to effectively staff," Caregiverlist.com CEO Julie Northcutt said in a statement.

Anyone thinking about becoming a senior caregiver should have a caring personality, a good disposition, the ability to deal with loss, and some experience taking care of others.

"Senior caregiving can be demanding both physically and emotionally and the support team of a professional senior care company delivers quality care to seniors and proper training and management for senior caregivers," Northcutt said.

If you're looking for a healthcare-related career that allows you to take care of others, but don't want to be a senior caregiver, there are plenty of other options out there - including everything from family therapist jobs (http://jobs.kidsindistress.org) to a physical therapy job.
